A Proposed Approach to Minimum Costs for Financial System Data Maintenance

This paper establishes a conceptual model for the minimum theoretical cost of maintaining financial system data — arguing that current systems operate far above the minimum cost curve due to architectural decisions made when storage and compute were expensive.

The paper introduces the concept of the minimum cost curve: the floor of what financial data maintenance should cost given modern compute and storage. It demonstrates that reconciliation, batch posting, and subledger fragmentation are not engineering necessities but artifacts of a cost constraint that no longer exists.

Pre-Hierarchy Event Repositories

A research monograph examining the architecture of event repositories that maintain pre-summarized balances across all possible hierarchy combinations — eliminating the need for on-demand aggregation during reporting.

This work explains why traditional "star schema" data warehouses still require significant computation at report time, while a metric engine pre-commits to all summaries at posting time — trading write cost for read performance. The paper covers step-ups, temporal events, and the implications for regulatory reporting.

Shared Ledgers, Trust, Fast Offerings, and Social Commerce

Presented at the 2024 BYU Accounting Research Symposium (September 20, 2024). This paper examines how shared ledger architectures — where multiple parties post to a single canonical event store — could simultaneously reduce costs, increase trust, and enable new classes of financial products impossible with today's fragmented, reconciliation-dependent systems.
